Steny Hoyer (D) MD

Greenbelt, MD– 09/19/2024 – In a pivotal move for the creative industry,  Mark Kelley, President of Odic Records and Voicity, Inc., will meet with Congressman Steny Hoyer to discuss the transformative potential of the Nurture Originals, Foster Art, and Keep Entertainment Safe Act of 2024. This landmark legislation aims to enhance support for artists, safeguard creative expression, and foster a thriving entertainment ecosystem in an era where A.I.. driven content is becoming more prevalent and voice clones re making its way into music streaming services.

From the biggest entertainers to everyday Americans, nonconsensual voice and image clones can ruin careers, deceive families and friends, and traumatize victims. We need clear rules that empower individuals to control their own faces and voices while encouraging innovation and ensuring that the United States leads the world on AI.

As the music and tech sectors face unprecedented challenges, this act represents a comprehensive effort to empower artists, ensuring they receive the recognition and resources they deserve. With provisions that address copyright protections, the legislation is poised to reshape the future of the industry. Original supporters of the Act are Senators Chris Coons, Marsha Blackburn, Amy Klobuchar and Thom Tillis.

“Meeting with Rep. Hoyer is a crucial step toward advocating for the artists who shape our culture,” said  Mark Kelley. “This legislation is not just about protecting creative rights; it’s about nurturing the very foundation of our artistic communities.  The DMV is special to me, having grown up here so I want to do everything I can to protect the integrity of creators in the DMV and also around this great country. I also plan to work with the State of Maryland to pass similar legislation in the same way that Tennessee did with the ELVIS ACT.”

“Having multiple Billboard singles is great.  Being a part of a RIAA certified single is awesome. But being a member of the Recording Academy is extremely rewarding. It allows me to work with important people outside of the music industry to protect the industry that I love.

The meeting will take place on October 1st, 20224 in Greenbelt, Maryland.  As lawmakers face mounting pressure to prioritize the creative sector, this conversation is an essential part of the ongoing dialogue around supporting and sustaining the arts in America.
